He has been a co-developer of both Activity-Based Costing and the Balanced Scorecard. Kaplan has published extensively in the fields of strategy, cost accounting and management accounting, and speaks globally on performance and cost management systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Cornell University and has received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Stuttgart, Lodz, and Waterloo. Sue Woolsey specializes in corporate and not for profit governance. Her current corporate directorships include the Van Kampen mutual fund family, the Fluor Corporation, Changing World Technologies and Intelligent Medical Devices. She also serves on the boards of several non profits, including Caltech, Rocky Mountain Institute, Colorado College, the Institute for Defense Analyses, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States. From 1989 to 2004 she worked with the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering and Institute of Medicine, first leading the behavioral and social sciences and then for eleven years as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Communications Officer. She was Associate Director of OMB during the Carter Administration, overseeing the domestic 50% of the federal budget, and earlier directed policy staff at HHS (then HEW) for Secretaries Elliot Richardson and Cap Weinberger. She led a consulting practice as a partner at Coopers and Lybrand in the 1980’s, specializing in overall governance, legal support strategy, and financial restructuring for clients that ranged from large- and mid-cap corporations to universities and research institutes. She was a member of the editorial page staff at the Washington Post. She has taught at the university level, managed large-scale social science research, and managed a clinical counseling center. Her education includes a 1963 BA from Stanford in history and psychology, and MA and PhD degrees in clinical and social psychology from Harvard University.
